Fareward

Frequently Asked Questions

What you need to know

How Fareward works, what we watch, what you get, and what it costs.

  • What do I add to start watching?

Your flights, cabin, number of seats, and total paid. Three equal ways: type the fields on the home page, paste your confirmation email, or forward it to trips@fareward.com.

Watch first, account later. You see booked vs now immediately. Then we ask for one email to keep watching. That email is your account — no password, no card, no name. Magic link only. If you forwarded to trips@, that from-address is already your account.

  • What does Fareward watch?

Same flights, same cabin. If you booked United 481 in First from SFO to RDU on November 4, we watch that exact flight in First. Not a different flight. Not a different cabin. We do not watch upgrades or downgrades.

  • What does a save look like?

Usually airline credit, not cash. When the fare drops and we file with the airline as your agent, the airline typically issues the difference as a named travel credit (like a Future Flight Credit on United). It goes into your airline account. Same flights, same cabin — you keep the booking you have. The credit is for future travel.

This is not a card refund. The save is the airline's credit, and it expires when the airline says it expires.

  • How does the 80/20 split work?

We work to get the claim. If it works, you keep 80%. If the fare drops $200 and the airline issues a $200 credit to your account, you keep $160 of that credit for future flights. We invoice you $40 in cash.

The credit goes to you first. We invoice after we confirm the airline issued it. Fail is $0.

  • What if nothing drops?

Fail is $0. If the fare never drops below what you paid, or if we file but the airline says no, you owe nothing. No subscription. No upfront fee. No charge unless there's a real save.

  • Do you act as me or as my agent?

We act as your agent, not as you. When we file a change with the airline, we tell them we are Fareward, acting on your behalf with your authorization. You sign "Fareward is my agent." We never say we are you. This matters for trust and for airline rules.

  • Do you need my airline password or 2FA code?

Never. We never ask for your MileagePlus login, your airline password, a one-time 2FA code, or access to your phone. The airline's change process asks for a confirmation number and a last name. That's what we use. If a filing requires something beyond that, we'll ask you directly — but we will not take your password.

  • Do you connect to my Gmail or read my inbox?

No. We take a forward you send to trips@fareward.com. That's one email you choose to send. We never connect your Gmail, never hook into your inbox, and never read anything you don't explicitly forward to us.

  • When do I get the invoice?

Only after a real save. We file with the airline. The airline reviews it and issues a credit to your account (or doesn't). Once we confirm the credit is in your account, we send you an invoice for our 20%. You do not pay before the credit exists.

Right now, we don't have a live card processor on this site. When we launch fully, the invoice will be a link to pay by card or ACH.

  • Is the credit transferable?

Usually not. Most airline credits are named and tied to the passenger on the original booking. A Future Flight Credit on United, for example, is yours — you can use it for future travel in your name, but you typically can't transfer it to someone else. Check your airline's credit rules.

  • Does every drop turn into a credit?

No guarantee. We watch. We file when the fare drops. Sometimes the airline says yes and issues the credit. Sometimes the airline says no — fare class sold out, change rules don't allow it, or something else. We work to get the claim. If it works, you keep 80%. The first real save worked. The next one might not.

  • Who is this for?

People who already booked. After you book a flight, we watch it. This is not a tool for shopping or booking. You've already paid for a ticket. We watch to see if the same flights in the same cabin drop below what you paid. If yes, we try to get you the difference back as airline credit.

  • Can I add a trip before I book?

No. You need a confirmation number and a booked ticket. Add the trip after you book.

  • What airlines do you support?

We watch United, American, Delta, and other major carriers. Each airline has different change policies. Some allow voluntary changes for a credit. Some don't. We file where the rules allow it.

  • How is this different from other fare watch services?

We don't take your airline login. We take 20%, only after a real save. No subscription fees. We never ask for your airline password or 2FA. See the comparison pages for details.

  • What if I need to cancel or change my flight myself?

You can cancel or change your flight anytime. If you make changes through the airline before we file a drop, let us know so we can stop watching that original booking. If the airline issues you a credit from your own change, that's separate from anything we would file.
